Southern California Bight FISHING REPORT 06/27/2024
Continued good fishing across the So Cal Bight this week. Big seabass and halibut are biting in the Channel Islands, yellows and seabass continue to bite at Clemente and Catalina is kicking out impressive scores. While Erik continues to suck at catching bass along the beach, others are slaying them. Add in bluefin biting in US and Mexican waters and the last week of June is looking great! California, a leading state in progressive fishing regulations, has taken a stand for sustainable fishing practices. One key area of focus is the issue of barotrauma, a condition that can harm fish released from depths. When rapidly brought to the surface, these fish experience pressure changes that can damage their internal organs, often leading to death. The rapid change in pressure causes fi...

On this week's Sportboat Roundup, host Tonie Bangos covers the local bluefin fishing which has been gradually picking up. The grade of fish moving into these zones are large, and its important to come prepared for 80-150lb fish. During the day, the sinker rig in 60lb has been the hot ticket, with most bites either coming on this rig or a smaller knife jig sent down the the proper depth. The fly...

The bluefin bite is heating up! On this week's sportboat roundup, Tonie begins by going over one of the best weeks of nighttime bluefin fishing that the fleet has seen so far. With fish anywhere from 20 to 200lbs, it's important to come prepared with 80 or 100lb gear as a minimum. The daytime bite has still been tough, but with plenty of bait in the zone and warming water conditions, we're hopi...

awesome report thank you
I was at Clemente on Saturday on my own boat with my son and dog of course. Caught 5 yellows during the day 10-15lbs. I can confirm around 100 boats at Pyramid. We anchored in the shallow side of the squid beds. Got up at 3:30 and threw out a live squid on a knocker rig. 1 min later hooked up and landed 30lb yellow, then right after ny son hooked into a bus, fought it for over 30min, landed 100+lb black seabass. Released. There are a lot of black seabass there. We hooked another and couldn’t stop it
Just got off the Thunderbird. 38 YT at SCI 20-34 pounds. Grey light to 7am after that nothing. 100% live bait.
nice, i'm extremely happy i found your channel. Keep up the good work, info.
I can understand Eric just fine! Good report!
Cool! I'm one of the guys in the picture of the Blackfish on Saturday. It was a blast. Caught so many yellows. My first trip to San Clemente and my first ever yellows! Mitch and Easton are amazing folks. I will definitely be going out with them again sometime this summer.
Great job! Do you remember what setups with baits/lures you guys were using?
We were just fly lining sardines. We had some mackerel also but the yellows weren’t biting the mackerel. The captain and deckhand caught a couple with a surface iron, but almost all of them was just fly lining sardines. Good luck!
You should really have someone else do this. I can't even understand him through the out of breath
🤣🤣🤣🤣
I agree. That guy sucks!
Erik, look forward to your reports weekly for fishing intel. Keep them up and thank you for doing them!
Lmao!!!😂😂😂😂
Thank you Eric for your excellent work! Dont worry about the smooth brained haters! I look forward to all your videos to come!
escarps
Total wrong way to fillet a halibut,.close but no cigar..sorry buddy...but nice knife
NICE double and smooth reach around.
And dinner at Grills!
Just got back from my maiden cruise. Have the NK180 pro on my Wilderness Recon 120HD. What a BLAST!!! Rode up and down the lake with wind and chop and it blew right through the waves😊😊😊 Fished for 3 hours and played for an hour. Barely scratched the lithium battery charge. Best investment EVER!!!
Quick report from Rosa on 6,23,24,Great seabass bite on Flukes on Coral sea they didn't want hookup bait ?I got a limit and had a 15 great white eat my flukesuper excitement pucker factor bent the hook when trying to break her off we seen 2 that day,p.s on guy got 5 seabass on fluke he was hot stick ,Thanks for the perfect wind reports man
thanks BD
Great report, as always! From another allergy sufferer, get some Flonase or the Costco generic. 👍🏻
I have a fathom 40nld2 and plan to use it as a sinker rig/knife jig reel but was wondering what line would be optimal for the reel. Between 100 maxcuatro or 80 pp.
Thanks for commenting on my forward facing question. I completely agree with your answer, but it does work pretty awesome for looking under the kelp patties. Its pretty amazing to see the way the fish act to your lures or baits as well. It's just an extra tool for me. I'm 57 now, so i had plenty of years with nothing but a compass and a chart lol!
The drop shot flying fish 😂 funny thing I did that last year when there was that fish behind the west end of Cat in July. We felt ridiculous and didn’t get anything on it but good to know it works 😂
Great report as always!
"Cat fishing waiting for your bobber to go down" = ALL TIME CLASSIC....LMFAO!!!
I’ve caught halibut with a drop shot 👍
Hello from the Fib'ers.
Big CHRIS HELL YA BUDDY
Can we get a location for some of those bluefin bites? 60 mile, mushroom, east butterfly, or Cortez? As a private boater, it really helps to know whether they’re 40 miles out or 100 miles.
Thanks for the report, Eric. Do you know which spots are holding the bluefin this week?
The fleet is fishing the banks southwest of the Coronados, but I’m pretty sure there are other fish to be found above there.
The new scarecrow rig!
Thanks for the update Tonie. We are getting close to kicking this thing off closer to home - day time bite for us private boaters.
Love the dog reports!!!!
Next episode, can you explain in more detail how the BFT dropper loop is rigged? Size weight to use etc...
Probably not, but from what I’ve heard guys are tying or crimping an appropriately sized hook to their 100 pound plus leader and then tying light line, maybe 15 pound to the same hook eye and attaching whatever weight is required to get their bait to those ungodly depths to the other end of the light leader. The intent is to have the weight break free during the fight. Sounds horrible to me lol.
Thanks
Dude that was Hilarious "I didn't think there was anything worse than flying a kite, OR, trolling a Madmac!" Thanks to UA-cam, I'm learning things the hard way. thanks for your input sir. San Diego newbie here. Peace.
Thanks for tuning in!
Thanks for keeping me posted on what's happening on the water! Good luck to you this weekend!
Today’s the first day of Summer. You get a fan or Aircon in there yet? It’s gonna get hot really hot soon👋👋👋👋
It was hot today lol. Left everything open for an hour before I went in and and was still sweating when I got out lol. Might have to set up a summer studio in my air conditioned house.
@@eriklandesfeind7723 Get ready. I’m not gonna turn on the AC until it hits 95 lol.
I seriously hate fish counts. Every single boat I’ve been on lies. Same for the charter I used yesterday increased the actual catch. Why do we still even do fish counts. Pictures or it probably didn’t happen.
Does she still work on the grande ?
What boat you work on maybe the Grande?
I never knew what a Break Wall was...Thank you for your clear explanation
Can someone explain how to shotgun launch a flying fish please?
I just caught 7 myself on the Pegasus on a 2 day..slaughter fest
Phil sam was Right. They started at the bow and when they drop down and he walked back to the Stern, and thus when he got bit. I was with them every time it was hard staying awake. But it was a great trip. I'm gonna do it again with you guys
Hi sam and phil Great trip. One thing I like about this trip when people didn't have the right stuff. Other guys stepped up helping to catch the fish of their dream. That's what you call real fishing
Sam Wright I was with them 9:50 . They'll go to the bow and drop and walk back to the Stern and got a bit.
Hey Erik, do you ever use live scope or something similar?
I don’t. Some guys swear by it but I don’t see any proven advantage from using it.
1st things first, THAT MY LADY IS BY FAR THE BEST INSTRUCTIONAL VIDEO FOR COOKING THAT I HAVE EVER SEEN AND I HAVE WATCHED LITERALLY MILLIONS OF VIDEOS!! Your instructions are SPOT ON!! YOU MADE SUCH A COMPLEX DISH LOOK SO EASY, I had this type of Stew? At a Restaurant last night and my friend it blew me away!! I woke up with Cioppino on the brain, I watched a total of 11 videos and then #12 was the one that stopped me in my tracks!! I want to not take away from the other videos they too was good but my choice was this one, and I’m going to make it with my friends that was cool 😎 I would like to THANK YOU AND YOU FAMILY FOR SHARING YOUR HISTORY IN COOKING. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ God Blesses us All✌🏾🙏🏾

Did he say… “your mom is a deep boiler?” 😂😂😂😂
He did. Matt is a fountain of one liners
Good video, nice to see you catching fish , I was starting to think only Jimmy caught fish on your boat, haha. Seriously though, thanks again for the solid report.
erik you throwing that on a neck breaker? 3/4?
No, that’s a 7” MC Weedless on a trokar weighted keel hook. We don’t fish leadheads in the kelp 😂
Erik you should ask Matt about kayaking at night lol 😆. Matt and I were rescued by coastguard in our yaks at night. He sold it the next weeknd
He’s told me the story many times 😂
@@eriklandesfeind7723 lol. It was actually really scary
